Without leaving our building, there are many opportunities for you to use your talents in the life of the church and to support those in our community.

Friendship Lunch

Sunday Friendship Lunch is an outreach ministry that provides a hot meal for people who usually eat at the Open Door during the week or for anyone who needs a hot meal. Each Sunday anywhere from 30 to 60 people are served between 12:00 and 1:00 pm, and carryout meals are also available.

Menus are planned and food is in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. Three or four volunteers work from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm to prepare, serve, and clean-up afterward. Meals typically include a hot dish such as lasagna, scalloped potatoes with ham, or chicken and noodles, a vegetable, fruit, rolls, dessert, and beverages.

Since the program started in September, 1989, over 32,000 meals and hundreds of carryouts have been provided on 950 Sundays. It is funded by the Church and Society Work Area as well as contributions from organizations and individuals.

If you would like to be a part of the lunch bunch volunteers, please contact Chuck Lenk, 989.687. 9371 or

United Methodist Women Rummage Sale

Twice each year the UMW (October and April) holds a rummage sale which is open to the community.  Church members are asked to provide donations, and help with setp-up, sales, and clean-up are always welcomed.  Proceeds from these sales go toward various mission projects.

Altar Flowers

Every Sunday, our altar is adorned with beautiful flower arrangements donated by members of the congregation. Often, these arrangements are given to the glory of God in memory or honor of loved ones. The flowers are delivered to the church each week by a local florist for worship on Sunday and subsequently delivered to  the homebound the following week. The cost to donate altar flowers for worship on a Sunday is $35, payable to First United Methodist Church. If you are interested in donating altar flowers, contact Tonya Simons, , 835.6797 ext. 110, in the church office.

Audio/Visual Ministry

This ministry is  a very important part of our worship services.  Volunteers are needed to run the sound system, and video recording equipment.  Training is provided.  Please contact Tom Randolph, , for more information about our audio ministry, and Dennis Strahl, , for our video ministry.

On Sunday mornings prior to each worship service, volunteers (couples, families, singles) are stationed near the Larkin St. and Main St. entrances to offer a welcoming smile and handshake to churchgoers as they enter the church.  The commitment is usually only before one service once or twice a year, whenever you are available.  If you would like to volunteer for this important ministry, please contact Tonya Simons, , 835.6797 ext. 110.

Lay Leadership

The Lay Leadership Report lists all of our church committees, boards, and councils and the church members who currently work on each of these, and the Administrative and Work Area Committee Meeting Calendar shows when each committee meets during the year. Without these volunteers our church would not be able to meet the needs of our members and the community.  If you are interested in volunteering to serve on one of the church committees, please contact Noel Contardi,
